EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a valuable tool used for accessing and processing traumatic material. EMDR is used in a more structured manner than traditional therapy in order to target specific traumatic memories, and bring them to the surface in a contained way while keeping you grounded in the present. This process allows the brain and body to slowly let go of their grip on the nervous system “fight or flight” activation that many people with a history of trauma experience in daily life, even in relatively non-threatening environments.
Those who have gone through EMDR tend to report a lessening of flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, nightmares, feelings of detachment, and hyper-vigilance (to name a few). I am deeply grateful to be able to offer this work and I also know that this method is not for everyone. Trauma healing modalities do not come one-size-fits-all. If you are interested, we can determine together if this might be a good option for you.
Here is a link to a video describing the rationale and use of EMDR a bit more in-depth.
